FASHION Heres
a picture of me. Can you guess in which decade this was taken? Its not that hard
is it, certain decades have signature looks, which is what puzzles me about the
current era. (Do we call its the zero's the double o's, the turn of the centure?
fucked if I know). My point, in previous decades the look defined you. In the
80's, you knew what was what and who was who, the culture took a decided turn
toward the fanciful, where the clothes were flashy, the jewelry was sparkly and
the hair was big. It was good while it lasted, and I didn't mind the nineties
so much either, the grunge theme was a nice change, and I certainly enjoyed wearing
the same faded torn jeans all week long. Now this era...this one has no identity
- its the everything goes fashion statement. No one is willing to take a stand.
I can look out along the campus and see just about any fashion movement - miniskirts,
bellbottoms, faded jeans, black jeans, tank tops, plaids and stripes - and how
am I supposed to deal with this!! What's in and what's out? There's
even this disturbing trend toward reinventing bad fashion of previous generations.
Where we had acid wash, now they pay big bucks for jeans that look like you've
been drug along through dirt for a mile or two, behind a flatulent horse. So you
got these brown spots on your ass and thighs. Or even better, there's a variant
on the theme where the jeans are designed to look like you've been wading through
water, and your lower legs have this two-tone thing going on. Personally, I think
the only point to this statement is to pretend that you have been doing much more
exciting things than you actually are doing. You can pretend that you wrestled
gators and hogtied bulls because your pants have obviously been through a hard
time -nevermind that you bought them that way. |
